If I've already got kids and I am eventually set free of strongholds/curses in my life, what about my kids? Are they set free from this as well? Or do they have to cast off their own strongholds that have already been passed down?
You talked about how sin (as well as faith, prayer and repentance) can actually change DNA. About 8-weeks ago my wife and I had a baby boy that was born with Down Syndrome (also known as Trisomy 21 - which means he has an "extra" 21'st Chromosome). I've been struggling to understand the reason why this happened to him, and my heart breaks as I think about some of the future challenges he will experience. Medical experts still have no idea what causes DS. If this were your son, how would you apply your faith to help give him the best life possible?

Good questions, Sean. From the top:
ReplyDelete1) Don't sweat your kids just now. The short answer is yes: they'll have to repent for their own sins, as they choose for themselves. I'd encourage fathers to repent for their family, in front of their family. But don't sweat it right now--you'll be dealing with all this stuff in a very detailed way when we get going proper.
2) My advice concerning your son: Pray for him with endurance. I would NOT conclude that some sin from you or his mother caused the DS (the exact same question was asked of Jesus in John 9 and he said it wasn't due to the sin of either). I would seek healing for him from God, and I would push into the Father for it, like the parable of the persistent woman. I would also encourage you: the suffering that comes from persistence and endurance is part the process for ALL of us. So believe and don't give up. As Matt 7 says, KEEP ON asking, KEEP ON seeking, KEEP ON knocking...
